Several aspects need to be considered when correctly installing automotive hoses.
First, the hose length should have sufficient slack to allow for slight relative movement at both ends after installation. Avoid twisting, sharp bends, and excessive tightening at both ends, which can cause damage.
For silicone hoses, use heat-shrink hose clamps or hose clamps with smooth inner surfaces. Do not use clamps with holes, as they may cut into the outer surface. The inlet and outlet hoses must not be kinked. An airtightness test should be performed after installation.
Also, check the joints of the parts that mate with the hose. If the joint has 90° edges, dents, or deformation, it must be repaired or replaced. Small pits on the joints can damage the hose.
When cutting short sections from a reel of hose, use a special tool or blade to cut cleanly; do not use diagonal pliers. To ensure smooth insertion of the hose into the joint, apply appropriate lubricant such as rubber installation fluid, water, or grease. Do not use liquids that will cause the hose to swell.
When installing hose clamps, place the two loose clamps at both ends of the hose, not too close to the protruding parts of the connector. The distance from the hose clamp to the edge of the hose should be equal to the hose wall thickness. Reuse hose clamps with good shape, loosening and tightening them 1-2 times to check the tightness, and then place them on the original indentation.
For example, when installing the fuel hose assembly on a Hongqi H5, first open the access panel and remove the fuel inlet pipe from the fuel tank, then disconnect the fuel pipe. Connect the fuel hose to the connector and tighten the inlet and outlet ports with a wrench. Tie the fuel hose securely, being careful not to place it above the low-pressure line. Then connect the fuel inlet pipe to the engine or fuel filter, and the fuel outlet pipe to the engine's return port.
To replace a car's fuel bleed hose, first locate the screw above the fuel hose and remove it to detach the hose from the brake caliper. If the brakes are not working properly after installing the new hose, open the caliper cap and repeatedly press to purge air. If this still doesn't work, remove the fuel hose, push the caliper piston vertically in, and then reconnect the fuel hose to purge air again.
