Signs of aging and when to replace automotive rubber hoses

As automotive rubber hoses age, their performance declines. Common signs of aging include surface cracks, hardening, whitening, localized bulging, or leakage. These problems are often caused by prolonged high temperatures, oxidation, oil contamination, or environmental factors.

During routine inspections, the condition of the hoses can be assessed visually and by touch. If the hose shows a significant decrease in elasticity or abnormal expansion, it should be replaced immediately. Furthermore, abnormally high vehicle temperature, low coolant level, a strong fuel odor, or soft brakes may also be related to hose malfunctions.
