The silicone spatula is a frequently used tool in Western baking, primarily for mixing batter and scraping ingredients. When mixing soft batters such as cake batter, a cutting or folding motion should be used, avoiding circular stirring to prevent gluten development or deflating whipped egg whites.
The flexible, elastic blade of the silicone spatula can conform to the inner wall of containers such as mixing bowls, scraping away batter, butter, and other ingredients adhering to them.
The silicone spatula is resistant to high and low temperatures and can be used as a non-stick spatula for stirring and cooking ingredients such as red bean paste and pancakes without damaging the coating. Different sizes of silicone spatulas can also be used to scrape residue from narrow-mouthed containers such as sauce bottles and skincare jars.
